Clothes Mending Workshop - Loved clothes last

Galway City Museum

Saturday Sept 13
10:30 - 13:00
For beginners
As part of the first Galway City Climate Festival, Climate Inspirations-Communities in Action, Galway City Council are running a mending workshop for beginners at the Galway Museum on Saturday 14th September from 10.30 to 13.00.

This workshop is part of Galway City Council’s ‘Circular City Galway’ initiative which promotes the circular economy system where materials never become waste and nature is regenerated. This project is funded by the Department of Climate, Environment and Communications ‘Anti-Dumping Initiative’.
Galway City Council fully supports the culture of rental, resale, repair and remaking. These practices are key to tackling the challenges of climate change, by decoupling economic activity from the consumption of finite resources.

Each year millions of tonnes of clothes are produced, worn, and thrown away. Every second, the equivalent of a rubbish truck load of clothes is burnt or buried in landfill. (Ellen MacArthur Foundation)
The workshop is run by Eimear Greaney (www.upsew.ie). Eimear will show how to do simple repairs, from threading a needle to darning denim. In the workshop attendees will sew buttons, fix seams, mend rips and sew zips.

All materials will be provided, and workshop is free of charge but numbers are limited. To book your place, please contact the museum at 091532460 or email museum@galwaycity.ie to book your place.
