In 2024, the National Library of Ireland (NLI) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) joined forces to create a Photographer-in-Residence initiative to visually capture and record the Irish environment and our response to the climate crisis.
As Photographer-in-Residence, Paula T Nolan titled her project ‘ReViewing Ireland: A Photo Study of Ireland’s Environment’ and travelled to each of the 26 counties between April 2024 and May 2025 using public transport and an e-bike. In each county she pursued two or more issues, taking photographs and interviewing people involved.
The Galway leg of her project involved visiting Inis Mór as a protected site and Special Area of Conservation (SAC), capturing the results of the AranLIFE project, and exploring themes of reuse and recycling with visits to The City Bin Company and Galway Metal at Oranmore.
The resulting series of digital photographs now forms part of the permanent National Digital Collections at the National Library of Ireland. For more information visit: www.nli.ie
This is a free, outdoor exhibition on display Thursday–Sunday throughout the festival.
